Did you know that volunteer work can go far beyond solidarity and become a true learning laboratory for healthcare professionals?

In my new article, I show how volunteering helps Oral Health Technicians (Brazil) and Dental Assistants (USA) develop not only technical skills but also empathy, intercultural communication, and cultural competence — all essential to serve diverse and vulnerable populations.
The study compares the contexts of Brazil and the United States and reveals that volunteering can be a strategic pathway for social and professional inclusion, especially for immigrants. In addition, I propose practical recommendations for integrating volunteer work into oral health education curricula.
